Hyatt City East
London
The redevelopment of a former office building into a city centre hotel called Hyatt City East.
Located at the heart of London’s fashionable Aldgate and Whitechapel district a short walk from the City of London, the area continues to experience significant change following the opening of the Elizabeth Line and significant inward investment.
Initially, planning permission was obtained for the refurbishment and extension of the existing building for office use but a change in strategy was implemented to capitalise on the strength of the hotel market and the depth of operator demand.
A new 280-bed hotel was delivered, with three additional floors added to the existing building providing a gym, rooftop bar, and terracing. The ground floor retail, which is in separate ownership, remained operational throughout the development.
The hotel is operated under a management agreement with Cycas Hospitality and a franchise agreement between the owner and Hyatt International, under the Hyatt Place brand.
“Whitechapel is one of the fastest developing hotel markets in London due to its proximity to the City of London and excellent transport infrastructure. The design by award winning architects, Dexter Moren Associates will bring a new dimension to the Whitechapel hotel market.”
